Kebabs for Roosters

2.0 out of 5.0

August 23, 2008

Damascu Bite is a decent kebab shop, but not amazing. There is certainly a loyal following, evidenced by the line out the door during lunch. You will invariably find an entirely male crowd, mostly a queue of City suits strutting like roosters in braces and affecting the gruff manly voices they only use outside of work to talk about football. The staff always seem to be angry about something or confused about who ordered what, leading to further anger and confusion.

If the kebabs were amazing, I would gladly put up with the queue of overpaid wankers and the mass confusion, but they're pretty average so I tend to pass.

Great Kebab Shop

I walk past a lot of this kind of place without really thinking about going in. But on the particular night I came here, I had just finished off a few pints nearby and really needed a quick bite to complete the evening. The place is small, but it is also cheap and efficient. My friend and I managed to get our delicious lamb kafta wraps within minutes and were able to pay with our (little) remaining beer money.

Eminently portable, and quite tasty, the wraps here are great. I haven't had the chance yet to try out other elements of the menu, but chances are I'll be back again soon to have a go at the shewarma. Don't be put off by the lack of atmosphere (or seating, for that matter) and just revel in the tasty grilled meats. Perfect for a late night snack, and I have it on good authority that the vegetarian-friendly falafel wraps are quite scrumptious as well.
