Japanese Pret
July 03, 2008
Ok so it turns out there are 2 types of Itsu - restaurants and shops - restaurants have the sushi train thing and the shops are more like Pret. This is a shop.
All of the food is pre-boxed and displayed in open fridges - I mean its just like pret only the food is all Japanese and the decor is much darker.
I'd never eaten in here before but was quite intrigued by the sashimi box - I think to call it a Bento box would be stretching it a bit - there was no rice or little box with compartments - just a take out box even if you eat in. I opted for the sashimi box which was just under a tenner but then they charged me an extra quid or so to eat in - ugh lame.
Anyway the sahimi was awesome, about 7 pieces of salmon and 7 of tuna which when you consider it would be about the same price in a sushi restaurant - the best thing was that the fish was rested on a massive bed of shredded carrot and seaweed, in fact there was so much carrot / seaweed that this box would probably feed 2 people.
I love to hate on chain restaurants or fast food places but I have to hold my hands up and say that I was really impressed - I would have paid way more for what I ate had I gone to a sushi place for lunch and I think the quality was as good as any other sushi place I've been to - fair play guys - you rule.
