The Town Of Ramsgate can date its history back to the War of the Roses during the 15th century, when it was then known as The Hostel. They serve a variety of beers, wines and spirits as well as burgers, chips, jacket potatoes and salad. They have regular drink promotions and also have a pool table. Outside seating is provided on the terrace.

My Riverside Pub - Amongst the historic riverside pubs that dot the Thames in the east, The Town of Ramsgate is my favorite. There are bigger riverside patios at some other pubs (e.g. The Captain Kidd or The Prospect of Whitby), but from here you can also walk straight down a set of old slippery stairs to the beach at low tide - dangerous after a few pints perhaps, but you get a great view along the algae covered walls that hold back the Thames.

The best thing about The Town of Ramsgate, apart from the good selection of well kept real ales and the really good pub food, is the friendly, cozy feel of the place. There is nothing remotely phony or campy here, no annoying video games, and it isn't a sports hangout either - this is a small village pub in the heart of London, where families, friends, men and women, young and old all come and have a nice time chatting, reading, playing games, etc. As an American, this is the type of pub I thought London would be full of, but they are much harder to find than I imagined.
