PizzaExpress has expanded enormously over the years and now has a staggering number of outlets. The simple menu and kitchen concept has retained its freshly made ideal and you can still watch your pizza being prepared for you. They play Jazz sets at this branch.

With the local gem Il Bordello just a few blocks away, which just a bit more expensive, there really isn't much reason to go to this PizzaExpress unless (1) you have a coupon, (2) didn't remember to make a reservation at Il Bordello, or, (3) like me, had a coupon but didn't realize it wasn't valid on the particular day of the week I chose to go (naturally). Still, for a chain with a distinctly cheap-sounding name, PizzaExpress is decent enough and reliably tasty. From the outside, the Wapping location looks like a boring boxy warehouse and barely resembles a restaurant at all -- you could easily walk by and never notice it -- but inside it is actually a really stunningly beautiful space fit for a much fancier, trendier restaurant, and it is almost worth going to dinner there just to enjoy the nice architecture.
