From the outside it doesn't look that much, but the The Calf stretches a long way back and has a lot of space which means you can normally get a seat.

It has an open kitchen next to the bar and you can get a good range of bar-type food (from chunky chips and burgers to nachos).

The pub has a nice vibe to it, wooden floors, thick wooden tables and chirpy bar staff.

There is a selection of board games you can play and right at the back of the pub is a separate room with a pool table, darts board and quiz machine. It's a great place to go with a group of people and just take over the room. The only problem is it's pretty dark - not sure why they don't put a few lights in there.. maybe it would show up the slightly tired decor in there!

Actually, that would be my only criticism of The Calf in general - it feels a bit dark.. as it doesn't have an enormous amount of natural light, especially as we head into summer, it sometimes feels like you're stepping into a cave.

Having said that, every time I've been there I've always ended up having a fun evening.
