Old-Timey British Foodstuffs

4.0 out of 5.0

A. Gold is such a charming, old-timey, and friendly store, it's hard to find anything to criticize about the store. Sure, one day they ran out of bread right in the middle of the lunch rush, but I actually found that more quirky than annoying. When they do have bread (which, luckily, is most of the time), they make the best sandwiches around Spitalfields.

A. Gold specializes in selling traditional British foods that are hard to find and/or dying off in popularity, things like birch wine, eccles cakes, and dandelion and burdock soda. It always feels a bit understocked in there, and I think they could benefit by adding more items and making the shelves seem more full and the choice more diverse, but what they do have is great.

The sandwiches they serve at lunch are stellar, very reasonably priced, and use top notch ingredients. Don't miss the amazing ham they use, and try anything with cheese as they stock only high quality great cheeses.

Amazing Sandwiches

5.0 out of 5.0

This place is the holy grail of sandwich shops, not only is it cheap, but the sandwiches are built before your very own eyes with ingredients that is certainly not Tesco's value by people that are extremely easy on the eyes. I mean what else could you ask for? A back rub? A little sedan chair to take you back to the office? Now you're taking the piss.

The last time I went there I had a pate and damson baguette with fresh salad and today I had duck and goosbury baguette - soooooooo tasty - its like going to your friends parents house only they have a farm and everything you eat probably lived and died within a mile of the kitchen and tastes amazing and wholesome. Oh and the prices are less than Pret or any of those other filth lunch-time spots.

They also sell ye olde sweets and posh pasta - you should go there, if you see some scruffy dude scoffing on baguettes and winking at the girl behind the counter come say hi as it'll probably be me - I'm not going anywhere else for sandwiches ever.
