Tasty Thai
January 25, 2008
Thai Square works very hard on their food presentation - everything you order, down to the rice, will be presented in an interesting decorative way. To some degree they do this to get away with charging a bit more for a relatively small portion, but even so their prices aren't too bad. You won't really find places like this in Thailand, except perhaps in Bangkok hotels, but they do a good job of translating the Thai food experience into a London style eatery.
Even if the portion you get is a bit small, the food is really delicious. Almost everything is a bit too mild for my taste, probably trying to not frighten away those people that think that salt is the only spice; adding some chilies does the trick if you like your Thai proper and spicy. Because Thai Square is a chain, I find myself wanting to like it a bit less than I do - so there are probably some better Thai bargains out there, but the tom kha gai here is amazing (I could eat waaaay too much of this), and the views are nice from the upper floor in the South Ken location, so I can't possibly complain too much.
