How to forget Wembley and O2?
November 03, 2008
I suppose that most of the greatest bands have already played there and if not- they will in the nearest future. Where? You're thinking about Wembley or O2? No, no, no- it's Brixton Academy that's probably the best venue for live music in London (of course, from my 'laic' point of view).
I've been there a few times before but unfortunately, I can't compare my levels of excitement as I was young and simply don't remember the events I took part in. This time I had a mature approach and was planning to feel atmosphere, music and people.
We went to the Brixton Academy to see Underworld so obviously, I wanted to have impressions comparable to those from Trainspotting (and I had somehow).
The venue is really outstanding- mostly because of architecture that comes from the thirties. I loved the arching stairs leading to the first floor although I fell down (my fault) and sloped floors making everything visible- even to a 5 year old child. There are a few bars inside and although at full capacity can hold around 5000 people, you can avoid horrendous queues. Alcohol is not extremely expensive and it's quite easy to find the place as it's not far away from Brixton station. I think that the venue has the excellent sound quality, it's more intimate that Wembley or O2- and you can really enjoy music there. Oh! And what's the most important- if you forget to take your tickets, you can buy them easily at the tube station from local heroes:)
