Lively Local Fun

4.0 out of 5.0

I freakin' love it here. It's a former 70s estate pub that now feels like a slice of the carribean dropped into Brixton and you know what, it fits in a treat with the tropical local vibe.
It is in danger of becoming too cool for school but i think that the trendies will move on leaving us this place to ourselves. Most weekends has some great muzak and the type of clientelle that when you look around you wish were your chums, good people, funny sorts.
One of the nights that summed it up for me was last summer, the 2 DJs were ladies in their 40/50s, and a banging old school set it was with no lame mixes to ruin it just the whole song and nothing but the song.
Bar staff are excellent, the type whom are pleased to see you and happy to serve. There is the odd fly in the ointment, terrible toilets but they are cleanish just shabby. THEY HAVE BEEN DONE UP AND ARE NOW THE BEST TOILETS AROUND, SO 5*s NOW !!!
If you want a cracking late night in Brixton without a cover charge or pretense, with good garden, babyfoot and brilliant party people 18-80 (i kid you not) this is worth a go.

Update **** this place now has bouncers, no great problem with that other than it means it's no longer so friendly and carefree. Still a laugh but not 5* for me anymore.
