The Pimple of Doom

3.0 out of 5.0

January 25, 2008

This has to be one of the strangest Starbucks in London. It is housed in a circular two-story building with a dome - it looks like a big glassed-in gazebo - smack in the center of St. Katherine's Docks. You can see this strange bulbous glowing Starbucks from most places around the harbour (although actually getting to it is a bit confusing through the maze of bridges and walkways across the harbour), turning what could a picturesque place into a glaring add for a mega coffee chain. Because of this and the shape of the building I have taken to calling it "The Pimple of Doom" or just "The Pimple" for short. But now I'm a total hypocrite, because, for lack of a better place to go, I have ended up hanging out at The Pimple a few times, and I have to say I have enjoyed the views of the ducks and the millionaire yachts and the cozy atmosphere upstairs under the dome.
