In any other location, this would simply be a nice, fairly normal, small bookstore. But it is such a surprise to find such a nice place in the dingy warren of tunnels leading to the Old Street tube station, that it gets top marks. What is it doing here? My guess is cheap(ish) rent and lots of foot traffic, so maybe it was a savvy decision after all. This is what independent bookstores have to do to survive today. Nincomsoup (http://www.tipped.co.uk/listings/12539/Nincomsoup), just across the tunnel, is also a minor gem hidden in the subway (with free wireless), so go buy a good book, get some soup, and chill out on the couches underground.
