The Harlequin is a great little pub just below Angel tube station. Although it's a narrow place, without a ton of room, it is very welcoming and comfortable. They also have a good selection of beers on tap and a full range of booze as well if you need that extra kick.
What I really like about this place, tho, is that you feel like it's a real local pub. It has a stack of games (Trivial Pursuit, Scrabble, Connect Four, etc), a real, live fireplace that roars to life on cold evenings, and comfy couches to rest on with a few close friends.
On some nights they squeeze a tiny DJ table in, although I have to admit it seems a bit overkill for such a diminutive bar - it does show that they have ambition. There are also some much higher quality than you might have expected snacks at the bar, and a friend of mine has assured me that their meals are quite good, too. All in all, it's a great local to have a quiet drink at, or to bring several friends with you to start off the night.
