Great for a take-away
December 19, 2008
There doesn't seem to be many decent sushi places around Oxford Circus (Wasabi doesn't count as decent...) but I'm happy I was recommended Atari-Ya, near Bond Street.
It's quite a small place, with a sushi bar behind which the sushi chefs prepare your sushi and sashimi fresh. It was good to see that they did it to order, rather than giving you something that may have lingered.
There are only 2 or 3 tables which were all occupied when I turned up at so I would recommend getting a take-away rather than expecting a seat.
The fish is really fresh and tasty. Sashimi seems to be the best option as you get, generously, 3 pieces for roughly £2 depending on the fish. I still managed to spend £11 though.
They also do pickled plum onigiri, which are delicious.
