I've used Lilac Grove for about 6 years. About 18 months ago I had a problem with the brakes - they told me it needed a new brake master cylinder (expensive). After speaking to a number of people I asked that they change the brake fluid as it was really dirty and discoloured and I'd been told that it can boil and then the boiling point becomes lower at which time your brakes are ineffective (problem only happened when the car was hot). They refused, but I insisted and they did it and hey presto, problem solved. It was apparently a difficult to diagnose problem, so I took it back when it was misfiring - explained that it was very similar to another car I had when a spark plug lead had failed - was told no, couldn't possibly be and subsequently told it was the head gasket with a price of £400-£500. Took it elsewhere - didn't mention a thing about spark plug lead or head gasket, was told it had one faulty spark plug lead and cost me £30. That was several months ago and it's running just fine.

This garage quoted me £70 extra for exactly the same repair work than what the main dealer quoted (without a good reason to do so!!!). When I declined the work I was then charged £45 for the privilege of them diagnosing the fault, cheers guys I wont be back anytime soon!!!!!

Good for all types of motor repairs and MOTs. Very helpful and honest.
you can often book your car in the next day when phoning up.
They even give a discount for Boots staff.
Some good deals on second hand cars from as little as £700
UPDATE: Oh dear - they seem to have gone downhill. Did some extra work on a friends car when he expressly told them not to, then charged him. When challenged they were not prepared to undo the work. I won't be going again.
