so so awesome

When it comes to parks I'm pretty unadventurous, by that I mean that I have my staples and I usually stick to them but this weekend I ventured east to see the Thames Barrier Park which I didn't even know existed until a few days ago.
The first best thing about this park is that you have to get the DLR there - its quite far out, almost to City Airport but the train ride is so fun, the DLR is just like a roller coaster, only maybe a slowler coaster.
You pretty much step straight off the train into the park and there was a little water fountain with kids dancing in it next to this really nicely designed coffee shop.
The park runs down from the tube all the way to the water and its a real mix of sculpted shrubbery type stuff, manicured lawns and tall meadow like grass. The sculpted bit runs the full length down to the river where tehre's a big old architectural memorial to the local war dead - it was really nice and you can sit there and look at the Thames Barrier (it doesn't move much!)
As parks go it wasn't very busy even though the weather was amazing, a bunch of young familys and some kids playing football - the other nice thing is that because its in the middle of an old industrial area its really peacefull, no traffic in the background.
Yeah if you can be bothered to get on the DLR and actually get there you won't be disappointed.
