Despite the oddly sterile sounding name, Food Lab is a very comfortable little cafe with front patio facing Essex Road. They serve some really excellent espresso here; a perfect accompaniment to the array of delicious pastries they make in-house. At breakfast you can get an 'Italian style' full English or a very good eggs benedict or florentine (although they did slightly over-poached my eggs last time, and the runny yolk is crucial to a good benedict, so sez me). Most other food options are Italian in origin: pastas, focaccias, risottos, etc. Can get a bit crowded, but even then it is a relaxing place for a leisurely time out.
