Closer to Europe

4.0 out of 5.0

August 26, 2008

This Bank Holiday weekend is slowly coming to the end but you can make use of Eurostar whenever you have a free day.
Eurostar is a high-speed train service (linking London with Paris, Lille or Brussels), giving you a chance to travel under the sea! To be honest with you, I was a little bit dissapointed with the speed as I was expecting it to be faster than light...Anyway, 300 km/h was ok and we got to Paris within 2 hours and 30 minutes! I'm talking about city-centre to city-centre both with check-in! Isn't it great?
Undoubtedly, Eurostar trains beat flying. You don't need to bother to get to the airport, to wait ages for check-in or for your luggage! You just need to get to St Pancras International station (which is truly beautiful) and a few hours later you're in the centre of Paris (in my case, it was Paris Gare du Nord).
Eurostar is a bit expensive but the prices are affordable when you book your ticket in advance. There are plenty of good deals as well and I found one, paying less than £60 for my return ticket.
We left London about am and were back 12 hours later. It was enough to see all crucial Paris elements such as The Eiffel Tower or Arc de Triomphe.
I'm planning to convince Eurostar management to provide a link to Poland and I'll visit Belgium soon.
