I'm Too Sexy for My Coffee
October 04, 2008
Coffee@ is an unusual chain. In fact, they're kind of an anti-chain in that each one is totally different and they clearly abhor corporate homogeneity. Coffee@Whitecross Street is kind of hipster artsy complete with funky chandeliers and ironic soundtrack; the kind of place that has sugar bowls made of Legos and plays Right Said Fred because it's so uncool that it's suddenly cool again. All of the outdoor signage is done in chalk, which is kind of clever except for the fact that it rains in London occasionally, so they might get a bit tired of rewriting the signs all the time.
So yeah, the place is quirky, which is nice, and the coffee is very good, which is even nicer. The free wi-fi is also a plus, and, unless you come during the lunch rush when Whitecross Street Market is in full swing, it isn't hard to find a seat or a comfy sofa inside Coffee@. The food selection is limited, and they could definitely try a little harder with the pastries, but this is by far the best coffee shop in this neighborhood.
