Chamber Pots on the Ceiling?

4.0 out of 5.0

October 13, 2007

I would feel quite fortunate if I had the Churchill Arms as my local. This pub on Kensington Church street has a lot to offer, from friendly discussion with neighbors to a surprisingly tasty and affordable Thai menu as well as the usual liquid refreshments.
Although I have watched several sporting events at the Churchill Arms, I wouldn't say that it's exactly optimized for the experience, as the flat screens tend to be facing in directions that are impossible to view from the bar, and instead serve the relatively sparse seating on the wings. Still, you can always expect to find a lively crowd for football and rugby matches.
Loaded with kitsch, I always am especially impressed (or concerned?) with the collection of chamber pots lining part of the ceiling. I only hope that they've been thoroughly cleaned sometime in the past. I guess when the line to the loo gets too interminable, there might be some inclination to simply pull one of these down from the ceiling to take care of business (eww).
Also note that there's an attached restaurant with entry around the corner.

Best Thai food EVER

5.0 out of 5.0

August 14, 2007

When my husband and I popped into the Churchill Arms for the first time, we were just looking for a warm place to sit with a pint. Little did we know that not only is this a GREAT local pub, especially during the winter holidays (warm & cozy with fireplace and all kinds of crazy Winston Churchill paraphernalia), but in the back there is a fantastic thai restaurant. The pad see yew is our favorite dish, but everything is excellent, not to mention reasonably priced. When we lived in London, we ate there at least twice a week. If you are ever in the Kensington/Notting Hill area, do yourself a favor and pop into the Churchill Arms. It's the best!
