A dancer's body..without the dance!
October 14, 2009
A friend of mine recommended the Barre studio a couple of months ago and I thought I would give it a try. I've been trying to get into the routine of going to the gym or a fitness club for a good few years but the thought of boring workout routines and having to wait forever to see the results has always put me off.
I am really glad that I gave The Barre a try - their classes are like nothing I've tried before. The workout combines dance and pilates with resistance training and was devised by a professional dancer who used to be a teacher at a Pilates studios in Los Angeles.
This is how the Barre routine is explained on the studio's website:
'The Barre takes the most effective dance training moves and strips them down to the base mechanics of the movement (removing all the "fluffy" stuff), these muscle mechanics make up the Barre routine.' ( http://www.the-barre.com/about-us/ )
The Barre workout method is really fun and most importantly, it works!!! I was amazed that I could feel the difference after just a few intense sessions. I've been attending the classes for over a month now and I can't believe what a difference it has made to my body - my bottom, belly and tights are visibly toned and it makes me feel much more confident.
The classes are run by professional dancers - they are all lovely and very helpful so it sometimes feels like having a personal trainer. There's a wide range of classes available - from regular beginners/advanced to post and pre-natal sessions – there are even classes for brides-to-be!! I normally attend 2nd-Barre classes (Intermediate Level). The workout takes 60 min and it inludes loads of cardiovascular exercises, it's a lot of hard work but it's worth it!!
