Hidden Gem
January 10, 2010
This new local pub is a bit of a hidden gem! Standing proud on the corner of Arlington Square, The Hanbury Arms (formerly The Social) is a lovely place! The wood panelling, brass beer pumps and comfy leather sofas give it a warm traditional feel, as does the roaring pizza oven!
There is something for everyone on the broad pizza menu as well as a good selection of salads and deli platters and the quality and freshness of the ingredients is abundantly clear when you taste them.
The bar is also well stocked with myriad draught beers (Peroni, Kirin Ichiban, Erdinger,) Real Ales like Adnams and Bombardier and an extensive Wine List.
The jukebox downstairs is free and has a great mix old and new music and tucked away in the corner is a selection of classic board games which is always good fun. Nicely separate from the ground floor bar is the upstairs function room which is complete with pool table and big screen for all the footy and also available to hire for free.
Ultimately, this is a great new local pub and well worth a 5 minute stroll off the beaten track of Essex Road and Upper Street to experience.
