La Poule Au Pot

La Poule Au Pot is said to be one of the most romantic restaurants in London, something which depends on the individual, but it is certainly one of the most authentically French. The cuisine is very rustic and wine is served in enormous carafe bottles - you pay for the amount you manage to consume rather than the entire bottle.

French, charming, affordable

In the elite Belgravia is a charming little French restuarant that literally makes you feel like you're in France.

All the tables are close together, so it's very intimate, and all with a small rose pot, lighted candles and blue or red French china. Very quaint and charming.

The waitstaff are extremely attentive but not over the top and no rudeness whatsoever. We had a small group and were on a tight schedule, and they accomodated us perfectly.

The food is simple and classic French. The menu appears to change daily with what's fresh b/c we weren't given menus, but rather told what they have. Starters such as French onion soup; rocket with mushrooms and cheese; or asparagas served to order. Mains such a beef steak and fries (of course); chicken with creamy taragon sauce; poached salmon; and grilled skate or tuna. Everyone devoured their meal and no one left a bite left on the plate. A good sign.

For 6 people the cost was £150 but only a half bottle of wine and no coffee or desserts. Very reasonbly priced. I will definitely be back... need to take hubby there.

Tasty french food (& waiters)

This place serves hearty, traditional french food - the environment is also very traditional with tables crowded closely together, spilling onto the street, dried vines hanging about the place and edith piaf on the stereo! The waiters provide some pretty good eye candy too. If you know your bouillabaisse from your magret de canard (the menu is all in french), then this is the place for you. A little difficult to find, but definetly worth it.
