Best place ever
August 14, 2008
Every now and again you find one of those places that as soon as you walk in you feel home. You know that scene in Breakfast at Tiffanys where Audrey Hepburn stares into the window of Tiffanys and says that nothing bad could ever happen at Tiffanys - well thats Crockett and Jones, or my version at least.
I've been hankering for a pair of proper grown up shoes for ages so I walked down Jermyn Street and checked out a bunch of places (Churches too rural - John Lobb tooo pricey - the rest of them too lame).
I was looking a bit scruffy when I walked in but the people in there were completely lovely and didn't mind me asking questions or trying shoes on. When I found a pair of shoes that were awesome but I said I had to think about it the lady was super nice and wrote all the shoe details on her card which I thought was nice.
I went back in today and tried them on and had a chat with the guy and we talked about what the difference is between an Oxford shoe and Derby shoe (its all about the cut round the laces) and what Brogue meant (its the pattern bits) - ugh it was awesome. Anyway he was completely nice and not snooty and when I bought the shoes he said 'Welcome to the Crockett and Jones club' - this is the best place in the world ever, I'm gonna ask if I can move my bed in downstairs.
