A haven for wizened bikers, impoverished students and Rosie the spectral servant girl, the Sal provides a great night out with a spine-tingling twist. Buried deep beneath the cold stone floors lies a shadowy maze of caves, open to anyone brave or intoxicated enough to take one of the pub's infamous Saturday night tours. The downstairs bar is well-stocked with speciality cider and an intriguing choice of luminous liquors including Chartreuse and La Fee absinthe. Upstairs is a metaller's delight, with free/reasonably priced gigs most weekends as well as DJs who aren't deaf to all requests.

Very well known and sometimes too busy. Although it has a rep as the oldest pub in Nottingham, it has lost that olde feel due to the decor modernisation. The trip is much better.
