One for the girls ... or is it?

Went here for a mid-week dinner with girlfriends - it suited our mood: relaxed, friendly waiters and discerning clientele. Starters were pea and leek tart, smoked mackerel and the salt and pepper prawns - which were very picante! The mains really were good: suckling pig, yellow fin tuna and chicken milanese. But I could have eaten more. Call me a heathen! And I thought the total bill was a tad too expensive ... must have been the drinks! I really want to say that I would go again but I don't think I will.

Amazing value at £25 for 3 courses

I visited the Boxwood Cafe In London on Friday. We had 3 courses for £25 which was amazing value. I had the ham and chicken terrine for starter, smoked haddock for lunch and honeycomb ice cream with hot choc sauce as a desert. All were fab. My only critisium was that there wasnt alot to the main course. But was suoer tasty. The service was fab, the setting was calm and peaceful in the heart of busy knightsbridge and the wine by the glass started at a reasonable £5.50. All in all highley recommended.

ramsay does veggie food

As a vegetarian, I've longed to try some of Gordon Ramsay's food. However, he has expressed his vehement distaste for vegetarianism. Imagine my surprise when I checked out the menu of the Boxwood Cafe (by the way, the website is v. helpful and it's easy to book a table online).

I have to say that the experience lived up to my expectations. It was un-stuffy (even less so than some lesser food institutions in Central London). The atmosphere was chic and relaxed. The sommelier was helpful, even to a wine immigrant like myself. And the food was delicious: fresh and perfectly flavoured. Even the desserts (generous portions) were interesting, but not off-putting.

I would definitely recommend this place - especially for vegetarians who are often stuck eating sides at fine dining establishments.

That's One Fancy Burger Icon_featured_sm

Reviews of Boxwood Cafe often seem to include the word "casual" usually in close proximity to a mention of the fact that they have a hamburger on the menu. This may be a casual spot compared to some of Gordon Ramsay's fanciest restaurants, and it is a very comfortable place to have dinner, but it is unmistakably high end and fancy. And the burger happens to be made of veal and foie gras - make no mistake, this is not Gourmet Burger Kitchen.

My group all ordered the tasting menu, which was fun, generously sized, and completely delicious. I think I might try ordering from the regular menu next time because there were some amazing looking things on there too (including that crazy delicious sounding burger). Great service, fun atmosphere, open late, incredible creative food, and just great all around.
