Stunning Building, Acceptable Pub

Well that's it really. The building is amazing, the beer is Fullers which is better than is typical in London, but not great either, the food is average.

I'd have to say I disagree slightly with Jo. W's review. While it is a beautiful space that has been lovingly refurbed, I have to say it was a little lacking in atmosphere to be a really great pub.

It feels like a chain pub, and because of it's location it is full of lawyers and financiers - not the sort of crowd I want to spend my evening with.

However there is a nice little balcony area inside the pub so you can look down on the main pub floor which is quite cool. I think you can book this area out as well, so good for parties/meet ups, etc

A grand old dame

Fullers have done a fabulous job restoring the Old Bank of England. A wonderful long oval bar, the walls decorated in old paintings two floors high with massive chandeliers running centrally along the ceiling give the room a very grand air. We visited Friday after work but had no probs getting a spot to sit, and there was enough bar staff to make service prompt. Excellent selection of ales and decent wine. A great refurb capturing beauty of the past but functioning for standards of the 21st century.
