London Levant
September 15, 2011
You'll hardly be surprised to discover that London's premier Lebanese deli is but a stone's throw from Edgware Road but for some reason it remains unknown to most except the locals.
It's well worth a visit though. Make the small detour if you find yourself anywhere along Oxford Street or Hyde Park and you'll be rewarded with the kind of treats you'd normally expect at a better restaurant.
Near the window is an impressive selection of baklava but further back, beyond the shelves of assorted cans, is the tempting olive bar (don't be shy in trying before buying).
And be sure to check out the butcher's and deli selection if you want merguez or makanik (spicy sausages), authentic humus, moutabal or yogurts. You'll have to fight your way through the throngs of Lebanese expats picking up their weekend eats but you'll soon find out what it's all for. Oh, and they also have their own bakery so it's worth picking up some flat breads while you're there.
