My Favourite restaurant

5.0 out of 5.0

December 14, 2007

this is my restaurant of choice when i take clients out. it is not cheep if you are paying for yourself, but the food is amazing and the service is always great. I usually just ask them to bring enough food for the table, as that way you get what the chef suggests. some special requests are: Lamb cutlets, Madagascan prawns, black cod, and the rice pots. the sashimi is fantastically fresh as well.

My new favourite

5.0 out of 5.0

As a longstanding customer of Yauatcha and Hakkansan, I've finally found a new favourite.
The staff are very helpful and prepared my assembled party a customised variation of the tasting menu to suit tastes. Admittedly, the decour is better at Hakkasan.

Prices aren't cheap (feast at £150/head plus wine/service) but worth every penny.

I wouldn't recommend this joint for pre/post theatre - it's enough of an event itself.

Great Asian fusion (NOT Japanese, people!). You must try the bbq ribs and tuna tataki with quail egg. Fantastic cocktails. Booking a must.

Brilliant Japanese

You can't fault Roka on their food or service. The food is extremely fresh, well prepared, and presented. Even though i'd encourage you to try everything on this brilliant menu, if there are 2 things you must do before you die, they are to taste the wagyu beef sushi and the madargascan prawn.
The staff are well versed on the menu, friendly, and true service minded people.
If dining in summer, sit upstairs, otherwise downstairs is very cool and offers some of London's finest cocktails.

Great Japanese fusion

This is the best place to go if you want great Japanese food. They offer everything from sushi to cooked dishes. I've been there probably a dozen times and have never had a bad experience.

The other day I tried their tasting menu for £75pp and it includes a sampling of all their signature dishes, plus sashimi and sushi rolls, and a wonderful dessert platter. For instance, we had a large scallop with a pureed mash; softshell crab and avocado roll; lobster dumblings; raw waygu beef roll; tuna tartare with raw egg an caviar (yum!), a fois gras type roll wrapped in seaweed like a roll but served with a seaweed bread and green plum (divine!); a crab hot-pot; and lamb shops with spicy sauce. They were all absolutely amazing.

The waitstaff are attentive and the food has never been bad. During the summer, they open up the place so even if you sit inside, it feels like you're outside. Plus, Charlotte Street is the in-place to eat these days. A great place to go to impress a client too.
