They make their own pasta
June 23, 2008
You don’t get homemade pasta very often that’s freshly made that morning. That was one of the winning parts of our experience at Sardo Canale. A colleague at work live in Primrose Hill and swears this is the best Italian restaurant, so a few of us tried it. It’s good but I wouldn’t say it’s the best. But I think I ordered wrong as soon as I saw my friend’s meal, I had buyers remorse. Luckily, I was able to sample his food. The scallop pasta (again, homemade) was delicious. Light and flavourful. My starter of roasted aubergine puree over fresh buffalo mozzarella was also delicious. It was my main that was underwhelming. The roasted fish was on its own and quite boring and was overcooked. Considering all the other vibrant flavours at our table, I was disappointed. But the lamb chop was amazing and that’s what I’ll go for next time I go. Dessert was icing on the cake, no pun intended. The profiteroles were to die for.
The atmosphere and service are really good. It’s right off Regent’s Canale and downstairs, but there’s a small courtyard with tables for al fresco dining but the restaurant wraps around the courtyard, so even if inside, you can see outside (assuming you are seated in that area). The bar is nice and a good place to start with a cocktail before being seated. It also stays open late. It’s not cheap though. Expect to pay about £70 pp for 3 courses, including wine and coffee.
