Harlem serves a good selection of cocktails at the bar downstairs whilst the restaurant upstairs serves American cuisine.

Sounds good, but fails to deliver

I have visited Harlem repeatedly with high hopes. The menu is quite appealing to me, especially the brunch which features things like grits and pancakes. Turns out that they don't have grits any more and the breakfast is just mediocre. The several times I have gone for dinner I have experienced pretty much the same level of mediocrity.

One thing that is notable is the bar downstairs which stays open late night. I suppose if you just want a drink, you will be pleased. If you want to eat, I'd avoid it.

Get in with the Harlem IN crowd

The music here never fails. Get in early-ish to get a good spot. Aim for downstairs to enjoy the tunes and relax in for a bit of Friday night music without it being too hectic.

In the evening you will have to pay £10 to get in, which is a lot for a small bar, but once you are in, you will see why. It's cosy and intimate, and has an old friends reunion vibe to it. It just feels friendly, relaxed, sexy and fun.

Look out for Drew at the bar, he's great at picking a cocktail out for you and makes a mean Southside.
