Rene Lalique was a great art deco glass artist and his original works are sought after world wide. The brand he created after stints at famous French jewellers like Cartier and Boucheron still thrives today and it’s a great place to shop. Lalique glassware and jewellery ranges from haute couture glamour to naturalistic day wear and as far as boutique superstar jewellery brands go it’s cheap. More importantly ranges like their serpent pendants, glass cabochon rings and oversized glass crucifixes have appeared on Paris catwalks, Hollywood premiers and all the right places to satisfy the celeb in you… but without the predictable gold and sliver sparkles that you’ll find at Tiffany and the like. If you’ve got deep pockets grab a vase or glass sculpture, maybe even the couture eveningwear handbags… but if you want to spend hundreds not thousands the jewellery and perfumes are for you.

The other thing about Lalique is that the staff can’t do enough for you. They’re not the usual stuffy bond street crowd, they tend to be French and they love glass. Go in and say “wedding anniversary” and they’ll make sensible suggestions and if you say “that’s too expensive” they’ll show you the cheaper stuff. Perfect. If you want to get something unusual, feminine and exclusive without re-mortgaging the house or risking getting something that looks like it belongs to a drag queen, buy some Lalique.
