We recently returned to Maze after a visit 3.5 years ago (which was for our wedding lunch)!
We booked for Sunday lunch, on a day which seemed to be the first day of spring - 18C in mid March. The fixed price menu seemed cheaper than I remember years ago - 6 courses £45. We had a voucher for £100 so we decided to go a-la-carte to give us more tasting options.
The plates are still tapas size, but are so packed with flavour that you couldn't possibly want a full sized plate. Also, I love tasting different flavours so the idea of lots of smaller, intense plates really appeals to me. And every course was divine. My menu started with a zingy crab salad, lots of lime and cucumber keeping it fresh. Second course was delicious quail legs which were sweetly flavoured with a cep risotto hiding a poached quail egg. I savoured every spoon of the risotto. Next was pan fried red mullet with clams which was refreshingly simple. And the final 'main' was chinese style pork belly with langoustine - as gorgeous as it sounds. For dessert I went for a peanut butter and cherry jam sandwich which consisted of a creamy parfait topped and tailed with a crispy, pistachio crumbed wafer, the flavours of peanut butter and cherries woven throughout. I savoured every bite.
My husband and I debated who picked the best dishes, needless to say he was very happy with his choices too. The suggested wine and dessert wines were great, and taking coffee and tea in the lounge overlooking a sunny Grosvenor square on a Sunday afternoon was a perfect end to our meal.
Thanks Joel for the voucher :) but I would have happily paid the full amount. Lunch prices are definitely great value for michelin starred food.
