The Ship has a cosy and cheerful atmosphere, where the music is kept low to encourage conversation. It is decorated with naval objects to continue the theme of the 'ship'. They serve sandwiches and snacks and can cater for private parties of up to 45 people.

Pirates and Old Men in Suits

4.0 out of 5.0

March 19, 2008

I went to the Ship with a girlfriend after work in Noho last week, expecting to be surrounded by media twats (I myself, am, unfortunately, a media twat and work in the area). I was pleasantly surprised to find the bar relatively empty and filled with old men in suits. If you, like me, adore pubs which are filled with old men that time forgot, then this is the place for you. About ten old guys (two of them wearing proper suspenders!) were standing around talking about variable stocks. Awesome.

The actual pub is very cute, it's nautical themed and has gone for the traditional red velvet and brass look. It has some pirate things inside as well, which for me, make the pub.

The selection of drinks is poor, a few beers on tap and mixed drinks. However there were quite a few ales so that may be a plus. Having never sampled the stuff I couldn't put forth an opinion.

The food is varied and home cooked. I had a steak and ale pie that was "yum".

The best thing is that the bar is very cheap. Two pints of cider came to £4.50. For both. Not each. However the bar lady was a lesbian so my good lucks and ample bosom may have curried favour.

Overall it's my kind of place.
