Decent, if Pricey
December 14, 2007
Taqueria was our second choice of a Mexican restaurant last night, but it turned out to be a satisfactory one. The place is not too big, but did have room for a six person party without any advanced notice. Although they have a variety of margaritas and Mexican beers, there is not a full bar (although there was one rum-based drink to satisfy one of our tequila-averse friends) which came as a bit of a surprise. Still, I was pleased with my Negra Modela, if not with its price (almost 4 pounds).
The food was authentic, and I was very pleased with my carnitas tacos. Do be warned that these are not the big tacos you might have grown accustomed to at other Mexican restaurants, but what they lack in size they make for with flavour. I also got a side of refried beans which were quite yummy, and the tortilla chips that came with were also some of the best I've had in London. Our service was great, we were probably not the most staid and easy to suffer group but there were no complaints and our food and drinks all came pretty rapidly.
All in all, we could have definitely done worse with a second choice for dinner. The food was good, the atmosphere fine, the company great. The one thing to consider is the cost, which is a bit higher than I had expected. Oh well, sometimes that's the way it goes.
