Splendid Upscale Lebanese
October 01, 2007
I'm a fan of the whole Ranoush empire, and Randa is a great jewel in their crown. This smart restaurant is compact, but has seating on multiple floors and turns out tasty Lebanese dishes for a mixed clientele. One of my favorite things about Randa is that the first thing they do is bring over a heaping bowl of fresh, crunchy veggies to munch on while considering your choices of mezze and mains. If other restaurants did this, we'd probably all be a long ways towards eating healthier.
Of course, it could also be that the veggies are a health down-payment, as the rest of my choices at Randa tend to skew far away from virtuously healthy. The baba is delicious, as is a shawarma in hummous and the fried/grilled cheese. After that, you can go for a mixed grill platter or any of their various mains - I'm usually too full up on veggies and mezze to bother with main courses.
The wine is also pretty good, with several Lebanese wines on offer, plus many of the usual suspects which pair well with the generally meat-heavy menu. This place is a mainstay.
