Amazing scones amazing value!!

4.0 out of 5.0

I visited Sketch in London on Friday for afternoon tea. We arrived and there was a long queue for the parlour. I explained that we had booked and was rudely told I had not. I had infact booked for the glade which did take bookings. I am unsure how I was supposed to know as it was my first time visiting the venue. I was about to turn around and take my custom else where when a tray of amazing looking cakes whizzed past my nose so I stuck with it. I am glad I did. I had cream tea at £9.50, I got 3 scones, the best I have ever had and the best cup of tea ever. All served pretty crockery. The tea was that good I went straight to Fornum and Mason and bought loose leaf bags and a tea strainer to try and recreate at home. My mum just has a cup of tea at £4.95. The decor really makes the place. The parlour was pretty, the glade unusual. And ther pod toilets brillient. I took pics of them and possibly risk arrest! The round bar looked cool. The big bar very funky as it was being dress for Friday night and the other toilets lined with mirrors and crystals made me want to move in. There is lots to look at here like the paint stair case and the model with hair made of needles. All fab and excellent value for money. Dont let the celeb hangout tag put you off. I dont think Jodie Marsh/Harsh do afternoon tea.

Now i love afternoon tea..so if the cakes and scones are good its pretty hard to dissappoint me.

The glade is a dining room at sketch which has a lovely quiet atmosphere. it was pouring rain and cold outside but inside I felt a million miles from the cold. Its nicer for a quiet chat than the front bar which id recommend for people watching!

The general afternoon tea is the perfect size for a late lunch and all served traditionally a little english/ a little french.
Prices range from about 18-30 pounds depending on how indulgent you go.

If your after a more modern place to endulge in my favourite passtime in the centre of london this is a good option.

The service is excellent (v. important) and the trip to the toilet 'pods' on the ipper level makes you wish you go the champagne tea.

If its your birthday the cute french waiter will sing happy birthday in your ear....!
