Stunning features. Lovely pub.

A recent renovation has cleaned the place up, but hasn't dented the original charms of this Grade II-listed Victorian gin palace. Original features remain intact, including some beautiful decorative tiling, masses of etched glass, engraved mirrors, partitions, fireplaces and wooden panelling.
Red velvet curtains, trimmed with gold braiding make the bar cosy, giving it an almost burlesque quality.
Yes there are modern nods, in the form of swanky wallpaper and plasma screens, but I enjoyed the fact that the plasma screens were mounted on the wall in gilded frames, trying them in nicely with the oil paintings hanging to their side!
Now gone is the pool table (my friend laments its disappearance) to make way for more tables, which have also found their way outside of the pub, where the beer garden holds some massive tables that would be perfect for a large group in the summer.
We sat in leather wing back armchairs and had some food and a couple of beers. It was all tasty and reasonably priced.
