Best sarnies made to order
January 08, 2009
I work near here once a week and knocks spots off any chain coffee store. It's bang in the "Portman Village" which is basically the rebranded bit between Marble Arch, Edgware Road, the Wallace Collection & Marylebone High Street. This little cafe has a counter full of delicious looking cakes (I've never seen Viennese Whirls that size... I daren't buy one) and makes sarnies to order. My experience of other people's sandwiches is generally disappointing. They don't make them how I like them. But they do here without me even having to specify very much! They use an excellent brown/granary sliced loaf and do the fillings just right - not over stacked but enough to satisfy. They don't mess around with tomato unless you ask - salad gets you good mixed leaves and you're offered mayo etc.
And all at a very reasonable price! Forget it that you're in Marylebone, almost. £2.50 or whatever, just right for a wicked sarnie. And the staff are delightful. And attractive, if that floats your boat.
