So much choice...!

This cafe is fantastic! It's usually crowded but if you can squeeze in (and you don't mind being squeezed a little) then it's worth it for the great atmosphere and the lovely food.

The menu is vast with a range of food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I'd definately recommend the bacon and poached egg salad, which is superb, and very filling! The fresh juices are great too.

If you can't face children when you eat out, don't go here! This cafe is often occupied by families at weekends. Otherwise, check it out. It really is a lovely place.

The other reviews give a good picture of the Blue Legume: quirky interior, yummy food, cozy but busy vibe, friendly service, interesting temporary photography exhibit (currently of Hackney in the snow).

But: I wanted to highlight two things that really made my morning:

1. Gorgeous Eggs Florentine. Salivatingly, superbly, sinfully, succumbingly scrumptious. Mmmm.

2. Really good choice in music. At 9:30 on a weekend, I really don't want to be jarred awake by sound, and their choice was spot on. Lazy, bluesy, mellow. I was impressed, and I'll be back.

Sunshine

There's a gigantic metal sun on the ceiling of Blue Legume - together with the bright blue walls, jester totem pole, mozaic tables and gentle buzz of conversation - just walking in makes you cheerful.

I went for breakfast, as it seems to be The Time to visit, described in countless reviews. There's loads on the menu, and I was (for probably the first time in any breakfast joint ever) tempted away from the eggs benedict by the promise of a fruit platter. It was the day after New Year, and I was feeling virtuous.

Anyway, it was huge and tasty gorgeous, and very very pretty. I wish my knife skills were that good. I was full for the whole day afterwards - which is no surprise as I saw someone else ordering the same platter to share. The Boy had the much more sensibly sized cumberland breakfast, which featured one of the tastiest looking poached eggs I have ever seen, and lovely fat sausage. Yum.

It's also worth a visit to take a look at the pictures on the walls - great photographs of local businesses. I'll be going back for paella night (on Mondays) at some point.

Great Welsh rarebit...

This is a fantastic place for brunch. Delicious quiches, fry-ups, Welsh rarebit, salads, pies, cheese cakes… It’s run by some very friendly Turks and it’s always absolutely packed. Very Stoke Newington in clientele, it has a nice relaxed feeling to it that makes you want to sit there for hours and hours over another latte. Perfect for hungover Sundays, a long natter with an old friend or just a laid-back day-off with a good book.

It's often difficult to find a vacant table at weekends - Stoke Newington Church Street is very popular then - but... so worth it when you do! Breakfast, brunch, lunch, afternoon tea or dinner; always an excellent nosebag menu. My tip? Eggs Benedict with Hollandaise for breakfast. Sensational.
