Ping Pong's first restaurant opened in London's Soho, architect David Marquardt and brand designer Niclas Sellebr?嬮ten having developed an interior architecture and style that is contemporary yet respectful of the traditions of dim sum cuisine. Combining a sense of relaxed order with warmth and comfort, the restaurant possesses its own distinctive atmosphere, yet at the same time defines the ideal of the modern dim sum restaurant everywhere. There are now several branches across London.

What is it about chain restaurants that makes them really feel like chain restaurants?

Apathy of the service staff? (Dreadful on our visit)

Same-same manufactured flavour of the decor?

Large size? Crappy atmosphere?

I don't know what it is, but Ping Pong's got it. Food was great, atmosphere service and overall impression were rubbish. Maybe the perfect take-out?

Cumquat mojitos and magic tea

I love this place too. Great for novelty value taking first timers. The food is pretty good but after you've been a few times the menu does seem a bit tired. Excellent cumquat mojitos and an entertaining herbal chinese tea that starts out as a glass of hot water with some kind of bulb at the bottom but over the course of the meal the bulb opens up to reveal a flower. Service is not consistent across the chain and sometimes it seems a bit hit and miss, but overall good.

Delicious and cheap

Ping pong serves up a huge assortment of steamed and baked dumplings, pork buns, etc. I love this place. It tends to be quite crowded but the line to get a table moves pretty fast and it is often possible to have a cocktail or beer at the bar while waiting. Even with a couple of drinks, this is one of the cheaper restaurants you'll find. Great for a big group of friends.
