perfect client lunch

5.0 out of 5.0

May 21, 2008

the reason this was a perfect client lunch was two fold...firstly my boss paid - hurrah! Secondly everything I ate was beautiful I had the pork meatballs with carrots and potato puree and it was delicious. i don't normally like cooked carrots but these were beautifully casseroled with the meatballs and all in all was a really well executed simple dish. Followed by a beautiful cheesecake with pineapple which was also delicious. The atmosphere in the restaurant is great, conversation is easy without having to talk above the hub bub of a busy restaurant and the staff were attentive without hovering. i can't wait till someone takes me back there!

I took my folks here last week for a treat and loved it. The service and food is second to none, we had a tarte tatin made to order for all 4 of us to wrap up the dinner and it was Delicious. The only problem was that, being a busy, bustly brasserie it gets really noisy and there are no acoustic dampners to ease the problem. So great for a one on one but difficult for groups, hard of hearing or the aged. (not sure which bracket i fit into!!)

My wife and I went to Artubus and loved the experience. It strikes a pitch-perfect balance in every category. The atmosphere is elegant but unpretentious. The staff is professional and helpful. The food is beautiful. They serve many wines as a half carafe, so you can affordably try different wines with different courses. The price at the bottom of bill informs you that you've splurged, but not been gouged.

Delicious and unfussy

Owner managed restaurant which won BMW Square Meal Best New Restaurant Autumn 2006. Extremely polite and friendly staff. Very attentive yet discreet. The menu is an interesting and imaginative range of traditional dishes revised and updated, so don't be put off by braised pigs head or slow cooked hare shoulders. I went for the market fish as my main - roast cod cooked to perfection; beautifully soft and flakes pealed away like soft butter. Portion sizes are spot - enough to feel sated with room for desert which is how it should be. Prune and Armagnac ice cream or creme brulee - now that's an unfair call for me to make. Thankfully there was two of us. As for the wine list, well we only drank water, but it looked very comprehensive with a nice touch of being able to have any wine by the 250ml carafe (1/3 of a bottle), allowing you try more than one.
Final verdict: All round, unpretentious winner.
