The Royal Oak is a popular gastropub which serves cocktails. On Sundays it is very busy due to the market on Columbia Road. Children are welcome and no-smoking tables are available upstairs. There is also a small courtyard.

A flowery roast dinner

Had an almost perfect Sunday here last weekend. SPent the morning mooching around Columbia Road flower market and Spitalfields, then had a lovely boozy roast lunch here. It's c. £12 for roast beef and the food is really good, nice quality meat and equally yummy sharing platters for starters and calorific puddings. The service at the bar can be a little slow, but then it does get mad hectic come 2.30pm when the flower market shuts up for the day (hint - buy your flowers then, they're knocked to about 50% off!). Great mix of pple too, from locals, to trendy types.

The Royal Oak is a great pub - all dark wooden interior and as you'd expect from a pub on Columbia Rd there are loads of flowers and foliage in the small courtyard out back.

It gets a bit manic on a Sunday what with the flower market and all but the roasts are to die for. In the week its great for a quiet glass of wine and a chat with your mate - oh and smokers take note - they have the most adorable outdoor back room.
