The East End sacrum (for free)
September 08, 2008
First Friday of each month is designated by Catholic Church as a day devoted to Sacred Heart...I don't really know why East London artists designated first Thursday of every month as a day to be consecrated to art until late...Maybe there's some connection? Who knows...
The idea is not stupid and even if somebody is not very spiritual or art oriented, the event may be a nice form of spending free Thursday afternoon. Over seventy museums and galleries across the East End are opened until 9 or 10 pm and sometimes that's the only chance to visit them (unless you work freelance). Of course it's not possible to see everything but having a map (available in all art places for free), you can chose lots of venues that present really good stuff.
We started our route not far from Vyner Street. Everything was so overcrowded that I didn't know what was going on. And it was all about art...(or showing off)
I had enough energy to see three galleries only (Vinespace, The Empire and ASC Studios), then I gave up and finished my evening at the Victory pub (also at Vyner St).
Obviously, there are lots of people taking part in a 'trendy contest' there, anyway if they don't piss you off, go and enjoy this marvellous day of free art!
