Finally, a proper Budweiser!
January 19, 2008
Having walked past Prague dozens of times, I had never done more than peer inside. Finally, last night, I got a chance to squeeze into the cozy space with some old acquaintances and meet some new ones! The space isn't very big, but it seems to always be crammed, and with good reason. The narrow bar has small tables on either side that, when full, nearly touch in the middle, which can make getting topping up your tipple a bit of a challenge.
Still, there is great energy in the place, and a pretty cool look, with exposed brick walls and wheatpasted posters covering some of the walls. Oddly there is what appears to be a reasonably sized downstairs area that was not open when I visited, but would presumably do some good in alleviating the crunch upstairs. Oh well.
But the beer - ah this is what I meant to talk about (thus the title). I was quite pleased to try the Budweiser Budvar Dark Lager, which was a rich, choclate-y and somewhat nutty elixir, which I proceeded to gulp down. They also have the regular lager (but not, I would presume, the tasteless American version). Basically, I was happy guzzling this stuff down, but other people in my group seemed equally pleased with their mixed drinks and wine, so it looks to me like this place has all the bases covered. Just be prepared to squeeze.
