Tomato London Reviews

Highly recommended! - Have read a few negative reviews about this place but decided to give them a go after a friend recommend them and was glad that I did. Had my hair highlighted and cut by Mercedes and am more then happy with the result and at £25 for a cut and £45 for a full head of highlights they offer great value for money. Previous reviewers have commented in the music and yes it is a bit loud but I was still able to hold a conversation with Mercedes without having to raise my voice.

DONT GO THERE - We are getting married in 10 weeks. My fiance went to tomato to get her hair done and came home in tears! The woman did NOT LISTEN to what my fiance asked to be done!

She now has a fringe that she never asked for and she has copper and yellow highlights which again, is not the colour she requested!

The woman did not even apologise!

Dont waste yout time and money going there.

Brilliant new stylist - Went to Tomato recently and had a stylist called Adam he was absolutely brilliant.(and quite easy on the eye) I have been looking for a good hairdresser who actually listens for some time now and have finally found one. I would highly recommend him.

DON'T GO THERE - I used to go there regularly for the past 3 years as it was cheap and you could have quick fixed, great idea!
for the past year or so they change manager, changed some of the staff and recently it went completly wrong! I booked an apt 6 weeks ahead and they told me when i got there that not all i wanted to have done was booked properly and they will only be able to do only half of it. I was furious, I was so expecting to have it all done. So I had to choose between the haircut or colour and picked colour. Then, they told me, they cant blow dry my hair but if i want to dry it myself, I can use their hair dryer at a chargeable price of £20.
I refused it and expected for someone to do it. A new trainy girl started doing it, she was so nervous and appologetic, she never done that before! i never seen that before.
Im really desapointed by the way they dealt with the issue, I will never recommand them to anyone. verything is good until it goes bad and they are loosing the plot.

I good thing I should mention though, if you decide to try them, I will advice you to book Peter, he is serious, gentle and honest guy, shame he works for the wrong people.

warm, friendly environment - I have been to tomato 5 times. Going around every 6-8 weeks. Each time I have been absolutely ecstatic. For the first 3 times I had the same stylist but unfortunately they have since left, thankfully all of tomato's stylists seem to be fully capable in what their doing and they don't do all that junior/senior stylist nonsense all the other salons do to make more money! All in all I couldn't recommend tomato enough. cheap, simple and cheerful.

Outstanding! - I was recommended here by a friend of mine who told me that she had a fantastic experience. I must say, I have to echo her views!
It can be a little intimidating at first with the music and the general busyness of the place, but I think that adds up to make a very vibrant atmosphere. It may not be some people's cup of tea but I definately enjoyed it. I had a 1/2 head of highlights and a cut...both of which are perfect! Affordable, enjoyable and a great service. I couldn't recommend tomato enough!

Don't go here! - I used to love this hairdresser. It was cheap but always gave me a good quality cut.

The last two times i have been very unhappy. The last time the cut was pretty average but I thought it might've just been an unlucky visit. My friends said it was 'ok' but not great. I tried again. Well....first thing they tried to tell me i'd only booked in for a blow dry not a cut (if you'd seen my hair before the cut you would realise how ridiculous that is!) She even tried to tell me I'd booked the wrong thing. They agreed to cut my hair and then passed me round three different people, barely grunting at me as they performed their different tasks on me. When i dared to question the cut i was basically ignored and a few halfhearted extra snips were given with the scissors. At one point during the blow drying i said that i wasn't happy with how curly the fringe was and she said 'well that's as straight as it will go!' Um....clearly not.

You know how you normally leave a hair salon feeling special? With beautiful hair? Well don't expect this from tomato.Seriously, spend an extra £20 and go somewhere where they actually have a clue.

A brilliant experience - Tomato is a fantastic salon and I would definitely recommend it.
Until yesterday I was very cynical about hairdressers - I have tried numorous salons over the last few years, and all seemed to be incapable of doing anything other than a couple of signature styles and colours. So whatever I asked for, the result was average at best.
Tomato was different.
My hair was cut and coloured by a lovely Australian girl (I am terrible with names!). I walked in blonde, but was looking for a total change and so walked out a deep chocolately brown with some awesome lowlights. I am pleased to say the girl listened to what I had in mind, talked me through the options and made some recommendations based on the condition of my hair and the likely colour result.
The colour is perfect.
I hadn't booked a hair cut as I am very fussy and need to completely trust the stylist before I let them at it. I was so impressed that I decided I wanted a cut too so she managed to squeeze me in. Again the result was exactly what I was looking for and without the pricetag of many of the other salons on Putney High Street.
Thank you Tomato.

Avoid this place - Although you find the odd stylist who is good there are a lot of untrained or unvetted people in that place who are let loose on customers.
In all fairness, I had one lady do my hair who actually did a great job but she then left the salon (probably to work somewhere better). I tried someone else who clearly didn't know much about haircuts, a complete disaster, as the hair dresser who had to tidy up her mess confirmed to me. The next person I tried was rude and kept burning me with the hair dryer- wouldn't adjust the angle of the hair dryer despite my flinching every few seconds and despite my comments. Before, when he highlighted my hair he made me hold my head in crooked positions for long periods of time. I said I was in pain and asked him to spin my chair around so he could get to the area he was doing more easily but he said it wouldn't be much longer- well, it was another 15 minutes of cramp and discomfort after that. I left with a really bad headache. They also slag off customers with other customers listening. Don't they realize how unprofessional that is?
I would never go back there and feel the public should be warned about that place. You might find the odd decent stylist, but it's more like Russian roulette. I believe that most people in there have not been fully trained or have been kicked out of other hair salons that wouldn't tolerate their rudeness, lack of skill or general unprofessionalism.

I've heard similar stories from other people, including other hair dressers in Putney. Go there at your own peril. It may be cheap but you only get what you pay for. I’m surprised this place hasn’t been closed down yet. It can’t be legal to not inform paying customers that they will get their hair done but someone who doesn’t quite know what they are doing.

Wonky! - Well I can definitely understand why people especially students such as myself would be drawn to Tomato, after all you can get your hair cut for £25 whereas I usually pay £40-50 for mine. SO... I decided to try it out and was unfortunately unimpressed! First of all, it feels very unwelcoming mainly due to the loud music and tiny shop space which feels more like a club than a relaxing place to have you hair cut. I could hardly catch what the stylist was advising me! Anyway, 40mins later and it felt rushed and didn't make me feel good about my new style. Got home and realised my new hair was wonky!! One side was noticeably shorter than the other! Went back the next day to complain and didn't even get a "sorry". I was just promptly sat down, someone snipped at my hair a bit agreeing that it was wonky and when it was done, pretty much just walked off without a goodbye. I did think £25 was too good to be true!

Excellent value - and good advice! - I've been to Tomato about 6 times now, each time with a different stylist, and each time it has been brilliant.

The stylists genuinely listened to my preferences and made their own, helpful, suggestions. Considering it is such a barginous price as well no wonder it is so popular.

It is open late, but if you want a weekend appointment I would recommend booking well in advance.

damn good stylists - Down to earth good stylists, who know what they do and, yes, they listen. And great value for the service. So much better than all those semi-artistic salons, draining your pocket, ofter for very average results. Once again: high five for everything, thank you Zac :).

Value more money, brilliant! - I never like going to the hairdressers. They all seem as if they never cut your hair the way you want and look down their noses at you!
Tomato is a complete exception. I've been coming here for about 2 years and even travelled all the way from East London when I lived there to get my hair cut. Hairdressers are friendly, atmosphere is good and price is unbeatable for anywhere in London. They actually listen to you when you ask them how you want your hair cut too!
Will never go anywhere else!

Cheap and cheerful - Had my haircut there today, pleased with the service, price and quality of cut. Yes its small and a bit cramped but they still wash your hair and give your a head massage and offer tea, coffee and magazines whilst you get your haircut. Stylist (Zac) was pleasant, efficient and took care and gave me just the cut I was after. only £25 for a girls cut, £15 for mens and full head of highlites for £45. great value, I will be back.

Nightmare - Tomato Hair Salon in Putney have an unconventional approach to the world of hairdressing. Unfortunately, along with this approach comes the undervalued feeling that a customer walks out the door with with. They have a tendency of rushing you, and if the hairdresser is late with another appointment they attempt to shorten the time which you have booked and paid for - not exactly customer service now is it.

At then end of the day, they're cheap in some departments yet others are the equivalent of going to any other hairdresser.
According to the person I dealt with last, they have the power/freedom to choose who they wish to deal with...so if they don't like you they won't serve you. I believe in customer service and putting customers first in all instances to avoid bad reviews and to encourage positive word of mouth, something they haven't quite mastered yet.

Brilliant, and cheap! - This is the best hairdressers ive come across in a long while. A large glass of wine, a great hair cut by non pretentious people. I hate those salons where you're made to feel lucky to be there, and this definitely isnt one of them. The hairdressers are friendly and they're quick but give a great cut at a low price. Cut is £25 for girls and highlights from £30.

Short Cut - Brill hairdresser. Discoverd this salon when I lived in Putney and now I travel the mile or so from southfields. Really good value with none of the unnecesary pretension so common in other salons where £100 for a heaircut is the norm. Yet there are the mags, tea or wine to make your time having foils more comfortable. I recomend them to everyone and advise you to book early as they are really busy.
