The George Inn is situated on the south side of the River Thames near London Bridge. The George is now the only surviving galleried coaching inn in London. There are several bars on the ground floor which serve bar food, but there is also a restaurant which used to be the bedchambers in the old coaching days. Today, it offers an a la carte menu serving traditional British cuisine and can cater for private parties of up to 100 guests upon request.

The Old and the Beautiful

The George Inn bills itself as London's only remaining galleried coaching inn. I haven't honestly gone on a search for galleried coaching inns to confirm this, but The George is a unique, historic, and lovely pub. True, they do play up the historical angle a bit, and some may feel that they are laying it on a bit thick. Still, on a nice day, sitting outside in the old cobbled courtyard, nursing a pint of their house ale and munching on a roast beef and horseradish sandwich, the experience can hardly be more enjoyable. Down a small alley off of the bustling Borough High Street, The George is a pleasant oasis of calm. The inside is a bit dark and stark, which fits the era - I enjoy the outdoor space much more.
