The Holly Bush is located in Hampstead which has developed and grown to become one of the most fashionable areas in London. This building was originally a stable block and became a tavern in the early 1800s. It has managed to retain its old fashioned qualities; worn oak flooring, wood panelling and original gas lamps hanging from the ceiling. The poetry society meet here once a week. Private parties of up to 50 guests can be catered for upon request.

Choice Hampstead Location

4.0 out of 5.0

I'm not really a fan of Hampstead, but if I get an invite to this pub I nearly always go.
It has loads of little rooms, old seats and a pretty good atmosphere. Feels kinda like a pub should feel.

Can't comment on music or punters much, always been a bit worse for wear.
I've always hired a room... which, ya know...is nice.
Reasonable range of beer, not great but not simply fosters either...

Posh pub crawl Icon_featured_sm

We went to this pub on an unusually sunny May day bank holiday weekend as, the Holly Bush is featured in a book called 'London by Pub'which, is basically a book on walks (pub crawls) around historic London. The Holly Bush was the 1st pub on the walk out of eight and probably one of the nicest that we visited during the day. Needless to say the last few were a bit of a blur and I won't be writing a review on them!

As we had walked from Islington to Hampstead we were starving so we decided to have our Sunday lunch here. I had vegetarian sausages and mash which were very nice but the cider sauce was a little vinegary and overpowering for my taste. Mick had his usual, lamb, and being something of a connoisseur in the lamb steaks declared it 'pretty good' which I guess means fantastic!
The pub was warm, cosy and relaxed and it felt like we were a million miles away from London and back in rural Yorkshire, all that was missing was a log fire and some dogs laid in front of it.

We finished our wine and continued our walk/crawl and it was literally downhill from here.....

Cosy country pub

3.0 out of 5.0

You are drawn to this place because of the location and the country pub feel about it. It's on one of those beautifully charming Hampstead streets above the main street (Heath Steet I think, where all the shops are) that you get to either via stairs or a tiny road that is meant for horse carriages and not cars. One of those streets that you dream you could afford living on (the pub is across from where Jamie Oliver used to live).

Inside, there are nooks & crannies and odd shaped rooms everywhere filled with tables...and people... enjoying their Sunday paper with a pint and roast. It has such a nice feel to the place; like Hampstead, you don't feel like you're in London but far away in the countryside.

The food is just okay. I had a vegetarian pie with salad and my friend had the beef roast but the greens looked overcooked and the portion wasn't that big. Nothing spectacular. My other friend had duck and cherry sausages with mash and loved every last morsel. The apple crumble was delicious too.

So you come here for a great afternoon with friends after a nice walk in Hampstead Heath. It's cosy. This pub gets packed at all hours on a Sunday so expect a wait.
