Cosy boozer with quirky plays

4.0 out of 5.0

March 04, 2008

I’ve only been to the King’s Head Theatre to see plays but I don’t think that’s their main attraction as it’s always busy when I’m there or walk by. And for some reason I’ve only been on really cold days so they always have a fire going in the fireplace which adds a nice bit of warmth to the place.

The playhouse is in the back of the pub and seats around 100 maybe? It’s small and intimate and there isn’t a bad seat in the house. Tickets are around £17 and they always have something seemingly good playing but like I said, I’ve only been twice yet both times were good. The first one was a comedy with the voice of Homer Simpson and we all found it hilarious; I was crying I was laughing so hard. The other one was completely opposite and was religious in nature, very serious, sad and dark but still decent. I wouldn’t say the plays are out of this world, but for £17 and for a great seat in the house where you can drink and watch, it’s pretty good.

The pub also has rock bands play so if a play isn’t for you, go to drink and listen to some tunes for a relaxed and unpretentious evening with other 30+ people.
