A hidden gem

I'd been living a few hundred yards from Michaels for several years, whilst travelling into the West End to get my hair done. I ventured in one day when I needed emergency attention prior to an event, and was delighted with what I found. It takes some getting used to: a long way from the hushed, reverent pampering of a Mayfair salon. You take your chances without an appointment (though best to book if you are wanting something complex), and rub along with the kids needing a fringe trim and the grannies having a perm - all human life is here! But there's a good-humoured bonhomie, and most importantly the brilliant talents of human whirlwind Erena. For neighbourhood prices you get very personal, thoughtful and experienced attention, great (and very fast!) cuts and expert colour. I often receive compliments on the rare occasions when I need to use salons in other cities (and we all know how bitchy hairdressers can be about the work of others, and that dreaded question: 'Who did THIS to you?'). Even though I now live in a different part of London, it's worth trekking to Camberwell regularly for this level of service and expertise.
