.. and maybe a backup list of restaurants just in case you can't get a table!
We were headed for the highly-tipped Anchor & Hope for a bite before heading to the O2. Friends J&B arrived at 6.30pm to reserve a table. On a Thursday night, the pub was heaving and the dining room was full, with a long list of people waiting to be fed. I was craving the slow roast lamb that people had raved about but, by 7.30pm it didn't look like we were going to get fed, so we sadly had to look for other options.
Directly across the road is Tas (Turkish) and Livebait. We opted for Tas. If you've seen my review of Tas, you'll know how this all worked out :-)
We're planning on getting back to the Anchor & Hope, maybe for a weekend lunch. Gotta try that lamb!

Had a group of 8, but we got there around 6 found seats in the bar and worked up an appetite. Seated within an hour.
The Slow roasted lamb shared between 2-6 still gets my mouth watering. Can't remember much about anyone else's meal as I was too focused on the lamb. The rest of the menu looked excellent though.

The Anchor and Hope can always be relied upon to provide and surprise with amazing food. The no-bookings policy means it's tough to get a table if you turn up late, but the it's well worth the wait.
If the slow-roasted lamb is on the menu, then do yourself a favour and order it. You will not be disappointed.

The best gastropub in London. Consistently great food and a warm, unpretentious atmosphere. Greatness comes with a price, though. You can get there too late and be shut out for dinner pretty easily. Also, closed on Sunday which is a super drag.
